Druskininkai feels close to nature even in the centre: pine-scented paths lead towards the Nemunas, while longer routes reach the forests of Dzūkija. You do not need to be an experienced hiker to enjoy them. Begin with a gentle walk and the Girios aidas Forest Museum, then choose how far to continue.
Start at Girios aidas Forest Museum
“Girios aidas” (“Echo of the Forest”) introduces the plants, birds, insects and animals of Lithuania’s forests. Its wooden building also houses folk-art displays, and the grounds invite a short outdoor walk among carved sculptures. Interactive elements and forest sounds make this a useful first stop with children, especially before heading onto a trail.

The museum is at M. K. Čiurlionio g. 116, Druskininkai. The tourism listing currently gives Wednesday–Sunday, 10:00–17:00, with free admission; check its official page before setting out, as hours can change.
Which forest walk should you choose?
A relaxed introduction
For an unhurried outing, combine the museum with a short walk on nearby paths. Let the children notice pine cones, bark, birdsong and the change in light under the trees. Stay on marked paths and turn back whenever it suits your group; no long-distance itinerary is needed.
A longer Dzūkija route
Experienced walkers can consider the official Forest Trail (E11) stage through the Druskininkai area. The Didžiasalis–Druskininkai–Viečiūnai–Žiogeliai section is about 23 km and is described as a moderate, 6–8-hour walk. It is a full-day hike, not a quick museum extension. Check the current route map, weather and return transport before starting.
By bicycle
Druskininkai also has an extensive network of cycling paths. The official cycling map helps you choose a shorter ride or a longer route through forest and riverside scenery. Use it to match the distance to your group rather than assuming every path is equally easy.
From forest to table
In season, the woods around Druskininkai are associated with berries and mushrooms. If you want to forage, read our separate mushroom-gathering guide first: it covers safety, protected areas and the importance of confident identification. Never eat an unidentified mushroom. For a taste of the region without foraging, visit the Druskininkai open market and see what local sellers have brought in that day; availability varies with the season.
Make it a gentle day from Domi Lini
Start with the museum, walk for as long as feels comfortable, and leave time for a café or a simple meal back at your apartment. Bring water, shoes suited to the weather and a light layer even on a warm day. In the forest, follow signs, respect protected areas and take litter home.
